Webmistress offers fully managed web hosting on our dedicated web server, located in an ultra secure data centre in Sydney, Australia.
All websites require web hosting, which is space on a computer, known as a ‘server’ that is connected to the internet via a high speed connection. Servers have special software installed that allow them to run websites and email, and are managed to ensure maximum security.
Our server is monitored 24 x 7 and we have a 24 x 7 on-call technician available if a failure occurs. The uptime guarantee of our server 99.9%. We have offered this service since May 2006 and are incredibly happy with the reliability, speed of our server and the additional services it allows us to offer our clients.

- Speed. Our first-class server equipment and location in Australia means our server is fast.
- Reliability. Our server has a guaranteed uptime of over 99.9%; in fact, the only time our server was down last year was for a few minutes for a planned restart to install some new hardware. Our server is highly redundant and your files are backed up daily.
- Security. We do not sell hosting to the general public or even other developers; our hosting service is for Webmistress clients only. This means that you will not suffer the insecurities and problems that come from having your website hosted on a shared machine.

Webmistress offers commercial quality hosting (in fact, in our experience we have better reliability and speed than most commercial hosting companies!) but we do not sell hosting to the general public as a stand alone product. Why? Because we have our server for the sole reason of providing the highest quality hosting to complement the high quality websites we create. After all; what is a great website if the hosting is always slow or down?
Our server is provided by Conexim Australia and we have a service level agreement with Conexim to ensure 99.9% uptime.
What do you get with our hosting?
- Your website hosting in a secure and highly reliable environment
- Email address configured as required (e.g. forwarders, POP accounts)
- Website statistics access (we will send you a link, username and password to view your website statistics)
- Login details for your CMS (if you have one) enabling you to make content updates to your website
- A copy of your website files at launch (extra copies available later for a retrieval fee)
What about direct FTP access?
Apart from our incredibly high standards regarding speed and reliability, the other difference between what we offer and generic commercial hosting is that we do not provide you with direct FTP access to the account on the server (this is similar to government or large organisation websites where only the technical people have server access).
Commercial hosting accounts will give you full access to that account on the server, including the freedom to write any code (secure or insecure!) We know that the server is an environment for professionals only and freedom of access is a major security issue. When thousands of members of the general public share access to a server it can result in insecure code being written and websites being hacked (which we have seen happen before in this type of environment).
This is not an attempt in any way to limit your access to your files and we are happy to send you a copy of your website on CD for your archive. It is our policy because, as part of our commitment to maximum quality, we want to be sure that every one of our client websites are secure.
What if this isn’t for me?
If this level of service does not meet your needs, we are happy to build your website and install it on a commercial hosting account of your choice. We can recommend some of the better ones to you, and we would definitely recommend Australian hosting over hosting available at discounted rates from overseas. However, please note that all time dealing with configuration or any issues with that third party hosting company are billable.
